After more than 30 years of dreaming about having a shop we decided to make that dream a reality and build The Outpost, an independent shop in Hethersgill, Cumbria, just 20 minutes east of Carlisle.
Created for both the people who live locally and those visiting Cumbria, The Outpost brings together a carefully chosen collection of beautiful, useful and thoughtfully made things, with a strong emphasis on traditional craftsmanship, natural materials and local sourcing.
How to find us:
FROM CARLISLE & THE M6
Take the A7 towards Longtown. Turn right at Alan Tuer’s, signposted Kirklinton & Scaleby.
Follow the road to the T-junction with the A6071 and turn right towards Brampton.
Continue to Smithfield and turn left just after The Robin Hood Inn & Tearoom, signposted Hethersgill & Roadhead.
In Hethersgill, follow the sign for Roadhead & Bewcastle at the crossroads.
Continue to the left turn, signposted Uppertown & Kirklinton Church. Turn left — The Outpost is the first road on the left.
Look for our sign at the bottom of the lane.
FROM BRAMPTON & NEWCASTLE
From Brampton:
Take the A6071 towards Longtown. Continue through Newtown, then turn right, signposted Hethersgill & Roadhead.
In Hethersgill, follow the sign for Roadhead & Bewcastle at the crossroads.
Continue to the left turn, signposted Uppertown & Kirklinton Church. Turn left — The Outpost is the first road on the left.
Look for our sign at the bottom of the lane.
From Newcastle:
Take the A69 towards Carlisle, then follow the A6071 through Brampton towards Longtown. Continue from Brampton as above.
